Last year, John Ray Wilson of Franklin Township, N.J. was growing marijuana in his backyard. A helicopter spotted the garden and called the police. Now, he faces up to 20 years in prison for the first-degree maintaining or operating a drug-production facility.
State Senators Nicholas Scutari and Raymond Lesniak are urging Governor John Corzine to have the charge dropped against Wilson. Superior Court Judge Robert Reed said that Wilson could not reference his M.S. in the trial. It's up to New Jersey legislators to change the law. His trial is set for this Friday.
Destroying Gambling Machines to Send Message
The state of Kansas is going Elliot Ness on video gambling machines. Last week, the state destroyed almost 25 machines that were being used illegally around the state. Some businesses didn't know that they were illegal until they turned them over to authorities.
The commission in charge wants to go after the supplier rather than the businesses themselves. Some of the machines weren't video gambling machines but rather the kind that require a quarter to be inserted in order to knock more quarters into the pay slot.
Strippers Challenge Video Game Players
Counter-Strike is one of those games like Halo that can have multiple players thus allowing for tournaments. These tournaments can be very competitive and some parents have even hired highly skilled gamers to play with their kids. There is money to be made in playing competitively.
First person shooter games are pretty enveloping, meaning there is little that can divert a players attention from anything but the screen. Furthermore, if you're used to playing the game at home for long periods of time, then there may be little time for the opposite sex since mom is bringing you Code Red and pizza pockets.
Knowing this, sponsors for a tournament in Russia decided to amp the gameplay a bit by having strippers interrupt game-play. The sponsors wanted to see how disciplined the gamers were but more importantly wanted to see women take their clothes off.
