Arguably one of the best states to go for barbecue, North Carolina is home to the Lexington Barbecue Festival which hosts over 100,000 people every year. The festival is held every October in the town of Lexington which is almost smack in the middle of two North Carolina cities which made the top five on the Men's Health list of fast food-addicted cities: number three Charlotte and number five Raleigh.
Raleigh isn't far from the Eastern Carolina barbecue "capital" Wilson but it looks like the residents of Raleigh prefer their barbecue out of a drive through window. The city is part of the area referred to as The Triangle along with Chapel Hill and Durham (which came in at number 20 on the list). It's home to many high-tech and biotech research companies meaning that many employees are probably very busy -- too busy to sit down and have a healthy meal, perhaps.

This may be how the city keeps so many fast food joints in business. North Carolina in general has historically been associated with many fast food joints. Both Bojangles' and Hardee's started out in the state and today both of those restaurants have spread franchises throughout the cities, including Raleigh. Today, the city has at least ten Hardee's locations going strong in addition to the larger restaurants, like McDonald's and Burger King.- 100 Fast Food-Addicted Cities

But Raleigh has another kind of rich history. The city was founded back in the late 1700s as the new state capital and situated within ten miles of a tavern where state legislatures often hung out. The downtown area features several historic buildings, including the Sir Walter Raleigh Hotel and the restored City Market. You can also find the country's smallest cathedral, Sacred Heart Cathedral, in Raleigh.
Avoid the fast food joints in Raleigh and find yourself some healthy food to eat.
