It sounds like something out of a CIA spy thriller where your face is scanned and you gain access to a top secret room. Except this time, when they scan your face, you get a bottle of wine.
The wine kiosk machines will be placed inside local grocery stores. It would scan your driver's license and use face recognition software to make sure the picture matches your mug. There is even talk of a breathalyzer tube just to make sure you are not too tipsy or drunk to match your wine with your meal.
These machines were set to hit stores all over the Keystone State in the next few months but the Governor wants to shelf the project for a little while. Gov. Ed Rendell just wants to be sure the technology will work correctly, preventing minors from somehow fooling the system.
One idea proposes setting up the video cameras inside the machines so that they can be remotely monitored. This would allow an observer to void sales if something suspicious were to go down.
The machines have worked successfully in Japan with Beer and even cigarettes. If there is anything we have learned from the past, you can't fight technology.
