It seems Detroit is intent on turning Motor City strip clubs into burlesque halls for the straight-edges. In the spirit of the blue law, the Detroit City Council is cracking down on strip clubs by proposing to ban alcohol from the clubs. They also want to stop lap dancing and make dancers wear pasties. What's the point?
Attorney Richard Mack who is a member of Perfecting Church and other pastors are working with Scott Bergthold, an attorney from Tennessee who has been shutting down strip clubs nationwide. In addition to the pasties rule and liquor ban, the clubs will be required to keep dancers 6 feet from the patrons and the dancers must be on stage at all times. The stage itself must be 18 inches from the ground.
Strip club owners are worried that their places will go out of business without liquor. Mack is hoping that happens. Boobs remain boobs and lonely men will remain lonely. Strip clubs in Detroit, however, may not remain any longer.
The Kettle Called the Pot Dangerous
In the war of words on the legalization of marijuana comes one argument for the party poopers. Researchers at the University of Leicester found that marijuana smoke can damage DNA and increase the risk of cancer. Rajinder Singh, who is involved in the study, says that marijuana smoke has 50% more carcinogens than tobacco smoke. He also said that smoking four joints a day was the equivalent of smoking 20 tobacco cigarettes in the damaging of mucus membranes. The evidence is laid out in the journal Chemical Research in Toxicology. Your move, pro-legalizer.
It's Not KOOL Anymore
Recently, a bill was passed by Congress that would give the Food and Drug Administration the power to regulate tobacco. The bill is waiting a signature from President Obama who is "looking forward" to passing the law. The bill would outlaw flavored cigarettes such as chocolate, cherry and cloves. These flavors are said to lure kids to smoking and taste great. One flavor, however, was left alone - menthol. This may change later down the road as opponents to menthol say that it makes smoking easier due to its mild anethestic property. Kools and Newports are being targeted for their minty taste.

In response to your quip "Your move, pro-legalizer" I enter this into evidence..
UCLA's Tashkin studied heavy marijuana smokers to determine whether the use led to increased risk of lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. He had hypothesized that there would be a definitive link between cancer and marijuana smoking, yet the results proved otherwise.
"What we found instead was no association and even a suggestion of some protective effect," says Tashkin, whose research was the largest case-control study ever conducted. The study was funded by the National Institutes of Health.
Tobacco smokers in the study had as much as a 21-fold increase in lung cancer risk. Cigarette smokers, too, developed COPD more often in the study, and researchers found that marijuana did not impair lung function.
Tashkin, supported by other research, concluded that the active ingredient tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, has an "anti-tumoral effect" in which "cells die earlier before they age enough to develop mutations that might lead to lung cancer."
"Early on, when our research appeared as if there would be a negative impact on lung health, I was opposed to legalization because I thought it would lead to increased use and that would lead to increased health effects," Tashkin says.
"But at this point, I'd be in favor of legalization. I wouldn't encourage anybody to smoke any substances, because of the potential for harm. But I don't think it should be stigmatized as an illegal substance.
"Tobacco smoking causes far more harm. And in terms of an intoxicant, alcohol causes far more harm." (Pro-, Anti-marijuana forces cite their studies http://www.pressdemocrat.com/article/20090524/NEWS/905241067/1350?Title=Pro-anti-marijuana-forces-cite-their-studies)
This seems opposed to the message of that section of the article, and also goes against Rajinder Singh. He says that marijuana smoke has 50% more carcinogens than tobacco smoke. Why he was quoted? I will never know. He is not a scientist, is he? I doubt it. It says he was involved, which I take as a participant in a trial and therefore can have plenty of biased, non-peer-reviewed influence on the impression of this article to a common person who may not think of these things. AKA Smearing.
What do you have to say?

Rajinder Singh is using the standard drug warrior dishonesty. There are carcinogens in just about everything, but that doesn't mean that everything causes cancer. That's why Tashkin's work was so important - discovering that when all the ingredients in marijuana are taken together, cancer does NOT follow.
Singh's study is a minor data point in scientific process - discovering that marijuana smoke affects the DNA of calf thymus in a petri dish. Great - now take that to the next step and find out what we learn next. There's no way that you go from that to "smoking marijuana causes cancer" (that's skipping 50 steps and ignoring the other science that has been done, not to mention the lack of dead bodies).
Unfortunately, discovering a minor effect on calf thymus DNA in petri dishes doesn't get you fame, which is why Singh is practicing bad science by press release.

OK, So if pot has 5x the carcinogens in it than tocacco, then saying you smoke 20 cigs, it equals to one pack of tobacco. Not only that, but no one is freaking out on the people that smoke a pack a day. So what?!?! 4 joints a day is a lot! But there are about 5 other ways you can take the drug!!! You can eat it, vaporize it, drink it (yes they have came out with a tea), or use the spray, or take it in pill form! So your only saying that it is harmful in a smoked form huh? Well thanks, you just HELPED us pro-legalizers.
SUCK IT

Oh my God, he's RIGHT! Can't you guys see all the DNA damaged people lined up at the hospital? Oh, mercy us, it's SOOOO DANGEROUS! HIDE YOUR CHILDREN!
That's probably what happened to Obama's ears... when he smoked pot, his ear's DNA was damaged and they grew too large! And of course that explains George Bush's DNA damage to the brain. And you forgot to mention that marijauna will make your white daughter have sex with black men!
Wow, marijuana is so dangerous. Thanks for opening my eyes! I was sooo stupid to believe doctors who have done prolonged research at the behest of the Federal Government... Dr. Tashkin says pot not only does NOT cause cancer, but appears to have anti-cancer properties! What a dolt! Clearly the DNA damage done to him while he was researching has affected his intellect!
Oooooohhh, marijuana is SOOOOO DANGEROUS! Let's incarcerate EVERYONE!

Since I use it medically, I use a vaporizer which cuts out most carcinogens. I also eat it, helps great for sleep, better than anything I had been prescribed before for sleep problems. It should be available for any adult that wants it. Safer than aspirin and hasn't ruined millions of lives like booze & vicodin. Time to wake up the politicians to remind them they work for us!

If you want an alternative to smoking tobacco cigarettes try BluCigs. They are a nicotine delivery device that doesn't have any tar, ash, or smell and they are cheaper than traditional cigarettes. They come in 5 flavors too, so yay for flavors!
