Someone told me there were 37 remakes being made at the present moment. For some unknown reason, the group of people collectively known as "Hollywood" have decided to revise on several originals -- many of which are classic 80's (or possibly early 90's) movies and really cannot be improved upon.

But whether it's a sign of shameless nostalgia by a bunch of unimaginative filmmakers or the simple fact that nothing is original anymore, these remakes are happening.

One of them is Highlander. How are you going to make that better? There can only be one. Clancy Brown was excellent in that. He is the best evil I've seen since Vincent Price and he demonstrates this ability in Highlander, Pathfinder, Pet Sematary II, and Carnivale scaring the doodoo out of you in all of them. Also, Queen made an excellent soundtrack for Highlander so how are they going to top that?

So, if they are going to do a remake of Stephen King's It then I would cast Clancy Brown as the evil clown, Pennywise. Yes, they are remaking it. According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), "The novel is set in 1958 and 1985, though the feature version will be set in the present day." Tim Curry was great in that role, but I'm guessing they won't use him again. To see him twice in the same role would be a good idea, making the two stories a recurring nightmare. But if you're into making remakes, you're probably not into good ideas.

In the same article, THR also mentions remakes of Pet Sematary and Escape From New York for which there is no reason. There is, however, good reason to remake Escape from LA. Why not? Give that to Robert Rodriguez to direct. He would do a good job. Kurt Russell was awesome in that movie and you had the specter of the Cold War to make it ominous.

I also hear they're remaking Red Dawn. Who are they fighting? They should mash-up Rambo III and Red Dawn and show it on a Sunday at my favorite bar. Done and done.

I've always thought it was stupid to call the entire film industry, Hollywood, but I'm having fun. So, here's a letter to "Hollywood":
Dear Hollywood,

Please don't remake "Office Space", "Star Wars", "Big Trouble in Little China", "The Neverending Story", "Blazing Saddles", "The Goonies", "Rocky", "The Frisco Kid", "Tommy Boy", "The Jerk", "A Christmas Story", "Over the Edge', "The River's Edge", or "Grease".

Please remake Megaforce, Ishtar, Waterworld, The Postman, Illegally Yours, Doom, and Phone Booth.

And keep remaking Batmans.

Love,
