The next few weeks in New York City will see the creation of elaborate window displays meant to elicit holiday cheer. Some of the most popular windows around the city include those designed for Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Tiffany's, Saks Fifth Avenue and more. If you can't get down to check them out yet, read on for your own personal preview.
This year's Macy's window display in Herald Square will be unveiled on November 23 and will feature some very imaginative decorations to go with the theme of "Believe". As the store turns 150 years old, it wants to encourage all their visitors to believe in the magic portrayed in both their parade floats and their famous windows. As always, a portion of the windows will be dedicated to the classic film "Miracle on 34th Street" and the rest will display amazing images of holiday magic. The windows will be open through January 12, 2009.
Saks Fifth Avenue is also known to have some spectacular displays throughout the holiday season. Their revealed their snowflake-adorned windows on November 24, 2008 to the public. Marlo Thomas joined in on the festivities to help introduce the decor adorned with crystals from CRYSTALLIZEDTM - Swarovski Elements. Visitors can view the windows, featuring the story of "Snowflake City", through the holiday season. The windows at Barney's (pictured) in Manhattan are displaying a slightly more nontraditional theme: "Peace & Love: Have a Hippie Holiday". The display features retro clothing, signs calling for peace and quotes from Timothy Leary and Tom Brokaw. Like Macy's, the store is celebrating a birthday: their 50th and they're throwing a hippie party for all to enjoy. The party will be on display through the holidays.
When the windows at Tiffany & Co. on Fifth Avenue are unveiled in early December, passersby will be treated to tiny, magical little scenes inside their small windows. The classic Tiffany blue box will be highlighted among neon trees and diamond-adorned ice scenes. The windows will display through the holidays.
Many other gorgeous holiday scenes await visitors to the New York City and residents who already live there. A simple stroll down Fifth Avenue often is all that is needed to find some of the most gorgeous Christmas decorations you'll see during the holiday season.
