After nearly a year of regional competitions in cities, like Philadelphia, Detroit and Los Angeles, the finalists for Red Bull's Big Tune Contest will face off in New York City on December 3, 2008 at the Highline Ballroom.
The finalists are all music producers vying for the opportunity to lay down a track with their choice of artists from a pool including Common, Nas and The Game. The champion will earn that chance.
The pool of finalists this year includes the competitions first female competitor, EQ from Houston, and the youngest competitor, C-Sick from Chicago. These finalists come from Philadelphia, Oakland, Houston, Detroit, Chicago, Seattle, Washington, DC and Los Angeles. Two producers have been chosen from each locale.
The crowd of attendees will also be treated to guest performances by Ghostface Killah, Digable Planets and The Alchemist. Proceeds from the event will go to the Impact Repertory Theater, a non-profit theater geared toward youth in Harlem, New York.
Big Tune has been around since 2005 when producers Vitamin D and Jonathan Moore combined their efforts to create a platform for new musical talent to showcase their skills. Vitamin D is still involved conducting music educational programs with fellow producer Jake One at each stop along the competition's tour while Jonathan Moore offers tutorials about the music business.
