December 5, 2008 will mark the 75th anniversary of the 21st Amendment. If you're not terribly familiar with your American history, that was the amendment that effectively ended Prohibition in the U.S. And everyone around the country is gearing up to celebrate this landmark date, even those who live in states that never ratified the amendment at all.

The amendment was first proposed on February 20, 1933 and slowly several states ratified it, starting with Michigan on April 10, 1933 until it was finally fully accepted on December 5, 2008 -- only requiring ratification from 36 states. The last state to ratify was Montana while South Carolina actually rejected the amendment and eight other states, including Georgia, never ratified at all.

Nonetheless, America got her drink back on and a good time was once again had by all.

Over the next couple of weeks, you'll notice local bars starting to celebrate this big event. In fact, Texas celebrates the anniversary of when they ratified the amendment on November 24, 1933 this coming Monday. Beer distributors across the state are encouraging drinkers to enjoy a holiday and remember the fact that beer companies keep a lot of people employed. Florida beer distributors announced a similar message on Florida's ratification anniversary -- November 14, 2008.

To celebrate the anniversary in a couple weeks, scope out a good location. Former speakeasies around the country will definitely be recognizing the date and other bars, including 21st Amendment in San Francisco.
