Uno Chicago Grill is introducing gluten-free pizza to their restaurants, catering to their customers suffering from celiac disease.
The restaurant, which earned recognition from Health Magazine in the April 2008 issue for being America's Healthiest Chain Restaurant, is testing the new menu items in their Northeastern stores before serving them nationwide.
The new cheese and pepperoni gluten-free pizzas debut in restaurants during November, the Gluten-Free Diet Awareness Month. The pizzas will first be served at locations in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and parts of Massachusetts.Recipes for these new items evolved from a year's research done by the masterminds behind Uno's food. The restaurant wishes to have all their customers enjoy the deep-dish pizza they're known for without loosing the flavorful quality of their foods.
Working regularly with their Nutrition Advisory Board, which is made up of physicians and other health experts, has helped Uno's develop a healthy menu. Even before the addition of the new pizzas, the gluten-free menu included many gluten-free options from salads to desserts.
Uno's was also the first national restaurant chain to remove trans-fats from their foods. The restaurant is dedicated to providing nutritional eats to their customers and has invested over $2 million in making advancements in that area.
