Fall means perfect weather and firy foliage displays. It's the perfect time for a drive out to the country to eat hearty fall treats, enjoy outdoor activities before the winter hits, and see nature at it's most colorful.
Wherever you live, there's guaranteed to be somewhere nearby to enjoy leaf-watching and other autumn entertainments. Here are some of the best spots around the country for fall foliage daytrips and weekend getaways.
Fall Paradise in New England:
New England is known as the best region for fall foliage viewing. Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island all have amazing fall sightseeing, but I recommend heading up to Vermont for all your foliage needs. In the Green Mountain State, fantastic fall foliage can be paired with fresh snacks on the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and Cabot Cheddar factory tours. Urbanites who hate leaving the city can also enjoy New England foliage with a walk through Boston Common right in the center of Beantown.
New York:
The Adirondacks and Catskills mountain ranges are packed with spectacular parks and nature preserves. In the Adirondacks, Lake George is a popular resort town full of cheesy roadside attractions and waterfront fun. Folks who choose the Catskills for their fall foliage experience should stay at the funky Lazy Meadow Motel, which is run by the B52's Kate Pierson near artsy Woodstock. Lazy Meadow rents out cabins and airstream trailers to guests. Downstate, in New York City, both Prospect and Central Parks have a mix of skyline views and fall foliage.
Deep South Leaf-Peeping:
In the Arkansas Ozarks, visitors can enjoy woodsy mountain vistas that light in spectacular fall colors along with trout fishing and watersports on the Twin Lakes, and underground explorations at Blanchard Springs Caverns. The Smoky Mountains in Tennessee are also great for Southern foliage fans. Seasonal tours operate out of Nashville that mix trips to Dollywood and the Grand Ol' Opry with leaf-peeping action.
Midwestern Autumn Adventures:
Foliage buffs near Chicago to catch the Fall Color Festival at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle from September 28 through 30. The Arboretum houses over 3,000 trees and shrubs from around the world. During the festival, visitors can take guided nature walks through the Arboretum's lush gardens. There will also be candied apples. Face it, you know you're powerless to resist candied apples.
Go West:
You wouldn't think that Arizona's famed "Red Rocks Country" would be a good place to spot fall foliage, but the Coconino National Forest in between Sedona and Flagstaff is a perfect place for autumn leaf viewing. L'Auberge is a luxury spa in Sedona that's close enough for you to check out Coconino's colorful forests and come home to their top notch cuisine and spa treatments. Don't miss the Sedona Jazz Festival in late September or the Plein Air Arts Festival from October 19-26th for a little culture to accompany all the leafy sights.
California Leaf Love:
On the West Coast, make your fall leaf pilgrimage to Yosemite National Park. Throughout the month of November, Yosemite offers special Vintner's Holiday Packages that allow park visitors to attend wine tastings and gourmet meals at local vineyards. Wine is a great way to spice up a fall foliage trip, all those trees will look twice as nice once all the booze gives you double vision!

You missed the most beautiful site for the colorful attraction of fall color - it is West Virginia. Just travel from Morgantown south on I-79 and onto I-64 and I-77 to the southern border of West Virginia. THE BEAUTY IS AWESOME!!!
