Michael J. Fox was honored with a star on Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto this weekend along with director James Cameron, NBA baller Steve Nash and five other stars from the Great White North. This is the 10th year of inductions on the Walk, coinciding with the Toronto Film Fest. It's only appropriate that Toronto -- the Hollywood of the North -- have its own novelty thoroughfare since so many movies are filmed there these days.
Canada's Walk of Fame does seem a little exclusionary, you HAVE to be Canadian while Hollywood's Walk is open to anyone, even fictional characters. Other 2008 inductees include musician k.d. lang, mega model Daria Wowbery, actress Frances Bay and legendary comedy troupe Kids in the Hall.
Since, unlike the Hollywood Walk, the Canadian version takes into account user nominations, maybe the Canadian nation just wasn't into 'Kids in the Hall' or it could be that since like the Hollywood version, inductees are expected to foot the $25,000 bill to cover costs for the ceremony. It's all just ceremonial politics.
What's important is that they are their star is now there, and you can go get 'Girl Drink Drunk' and pass out on it or just stand there and scrunch people's heads.
For a full list of inductees over the years and maps to your favorite Canadian's star, check out the official Website, but be warned that the site keeps timing out.
