It's time you had something to talk about at parties besides sports and reality television. We need to get some culture in you.
Luckily, America has some really great museums where you can immerse yourself in high art.
New York is absolutely chock full of art galleries and museums. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is undoubtedly the best of the bunch. It's America's answer to The Louvre with massive collections of everything from Classical Greek and Egyptian sculpture to modern photography. Central Park is right outside The Met and the views from the Museum's rooftop garden are incredible. Fashionistas will also enjoy their coutoure exhibits. If modern art is more your thing, check out MoMa, the Whitney, or the ultra-contemporary New Museum in the East Village. I also recommend the Guggenheim on Park Avenue. It was deisgned by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, so the building itself is a work of art. If hitting up all those museums makes you want to buy some artwork to take home head to the neighborhoods of SoHo or Williamsburg, where you can find plenty of trendy galleries.
Washington D.C., might not have as many museums as New York, but the National Gallery of Art more than makes up for the difference. Located right on the National Mall, the gallery has superb examples of work by Italian Renaissance painters including Botticelli, Raphael, and Leonardo da Vinci. Some of those guys had ninja turtles named after them, so you know they're good. The National Gallery also has works by an impressive roster of legendary artists including Rembrandt, Vermeer, Picasso, Monet, Matisse, Goya, and Vincent Van Gogh. They also have a notable selection of sculptures from French ultra-realist Auguste Rodin.
If you're further West, your best bet for artistic entertainment is the Art Institute of Chicago. It's best known for having a large selection of Impressionist paintings, and it's home to the iconic paintings American Gothic and Edward Hopper's Nighthawks.
It's also worth noting three honorable mentions: The Getty Center in Los Angeles is probably your best option on the Left Coast, but it's not nearly on the same level as these other museums. The Guggenheim in Las Vegas also offers up some great art in the middle of the desert. And the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art also features some very original artwork for visitors to enjoy, including works by Andy Warhol and Frida Kahlo through the end of this month.

Sorrry about the last comment. Even I get confused. The Guggenheim is on Fifth Ave. It is the Whitney on Madison.
